After earning a college degree in literature, Howard Schissler started his career as a professional dancer, traveling around the world performing. While I enjoyed performing and dedicated his life to it for 20 years, He became more and more interested in the biomechanics of movement. Like many dancers, he had been using Pilates to keep his body strong, healthy and injury-free, so shifting his energy to teaching Pilates was a natural progression for him.
Pilates Objectives: There are countless objectives, all offering numerous benefits to doing Pilates. Once you begin to understand these objectives, you begin to realize that the Pilates way of moving always comes back to activating the muscles from the torso and lengthening out the spine while performing any movement. Its scapular stabilization and engaging the abdominals, plus the placement of the pelvis completes the concept of Core Stability. Joseph Pilates invented, before it was “invented”, the concept of moving from the core.
Just some of the results from a Pilates program include better body awareness, correct alignment, a decrease in stress, and an increase in coordination, all giving you an overall sense of confidence. The Pilates techniques work for all sportsmen and everyone in between. A great quote from Joseph Pilates is, “You’re only as old as your spine.”
