Movie Summary: The Economics of Happiness is a new and powerful documentary that describes a world moving simultaneously in two opposing directions. On the one hand, an unholy alliance of governments and big business continues to promote globalization and the consolidation of corporate power. At the same time, people all over the world are resisting those policies, dem6:30anding a re-regulation of trade and finance—and, far from the old institutions of power, they’re starting to forge a very different future. Communities are coming together to re-build more human scale, ecological economies based on a new paradigm – an economics of localization.

Helena Norberg-Hodge: Author and filmmaker Helena Norberg-Hodge is the founder and director of ISEC. She is a pioneer of the ‘new economy’ movement, and has been promoting an economics of personal, social and ecological well-being for more than thirty years.

Steven Gorelick: Steven Gorelick is ISEC’s Chief Financial Officer and US Program Director. An adjunct professor at Sterling College, he is the author of Small is Beautiful, Big is Subsidized and co-author of Bringing the Food Economy Home.

John Page: John Page is ISEC’s Programs Director. Trained as a barrister, he was instrumental in establishing ISEC’s partner organisations in Ladakh. In addition, he produced and directed the award-winning film Ancient Futures, as well as the short documentaries The Future of Progress and Local Futures.
